It has to be a first, Meg and I have returned from a day out smelling wonderful! I think it has an awful lot to do with our destination, the wonderful Award Winning Lavender Farm, Gardens and Herb Nursery near Terrington, York.
Phil and Caroline were inspecting the wide range of lavenders and other perennials on offer to top up the court yard at Flamborough Rigg Cottage B&B. The colours were already amazing, I hope we get to go back later in the summer to see them in their full glory!
They had a wide range of exciting gardens such as the Sensory Garden where herbs, flowers and grasses have been selected for their scent, texture and even the noise they make in the breeze. The 'Purple Patch', incorporating lavenders, herbs and other flowering plants and shrubs, demonstrates the beautiful and changing shades resulting from a single colour planting scheme. The Dry Garden with its natural pathways leading through an unsual collection of Mediterranean and native dry-loving plants. A unique Lavender Maze, Lavender 'White Rose' of Yorkshire, Themed Herb Gardens and the Natural Wild Flower Grassland Meadow, Bog Garden and The Wibbly Wobbly Way.
We were exhausted but sadly were not allowed inside EJ’s tea room for a recovery bun!
Maybe next time we will take puppy Lily, who had spent the day rolling around in, who knows what, in the forest, so we can all smell sweet. I think we will be insisting that she sleeps in her own basket tonight, I knew Caroline should have bought that lavender pillow!
